Each weekend this summer I have been photographing local kids in the Hamptons. Living in the city more or less full time now, I see the Hamptons looking in, as I had not fully seen living there looking out. While there are truths to the perception of world class opulence and riches, that is not the entire story.
There are many local, homegrown, talented, and somewhat forgotten youths out there that are stuck in a world not of reality. It will mess with your head if you grow up in a working class family, and all you see when you step outside of your house is luxury : but gated off, hedged in, tinted, untouchable luxury. The kids from North Sea, Springs, The Reservation, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, Southampton village are caught in a strange place.
I have been shooting with a large format camera and just walking around the villages and different parts of the Hamptons asking kids to take some portraits. I am going to be a part of great show on August 23rd at the Channing Daughters Winery which will raise money to benefit Save Sag Harbor.

I also shot Max Barbaria, Sean Kinney, and James Cruickshank. We all grew up out east, now live in the city and experience the duality of both worlds.

I generally choose to photograph, recounting the moment later on. Setting up for the recent Fingerpaint art show I lost my Canon G9 (with a few hundred photos and videos on it; I have been photographically depressed since). This past weekend out East I had an great time, went all over the Hamptons, and had an amazing 72hours….but took no photographs. It was relieving, and stressful at the same time. The photographer in me stressed out over all the moments missed. While at the same time I was able to enjoy walking around without a camera, having longer conversations; letting my eyes soak it all in. I miss taking photographs, or at least having the option so I am getting a new camera shortly. Here are some photographs from Memorial Day Weekend; the last roll I uploaded.

Isaac Brest; one of the featured photographers from the recent Fingerpaint showcase is a relative newcomer to New York and photography. Co-founder with Alex Peweiler of the Stillhouse collective, in a short amount of time he has come a long way, and is one of the more talented young photographers . He just opened up his site with photographs from the last year and some new ones in the “Latest” section.
