Songs of Samuel pt. 3 - Spaghetti & Meatballs

August.26.2008 @ 5:52 pm by B-Roc | Posted in Music

Samuel has dropped the third installation of his series of podcasts! Enjoy.

Songs of Samuel pt. 3 - Spaghetti & Meatballs (Zshare)

As more than just a meal, dinnertime can be a complicated and stressful affair. Whether you’re throwing a dinner party for several guests or planning a romantic sunset supper for two, there are a few necessities required to successfully pull off a proper feast. If you’re cooking, remember to have fun but don’t make anything you wouldn’t eat-and-enjoy yourself (and taste everything before you serve it!) If you’re attending, as opposed to hosting, be gracious and bring wine (or the hosts’ preferred alcohol.) Conversely, if you’re hosting, receive your guests with grace and be sure that everyone is comfortable and satiated. With these bare essentials covered, the last, and arguably most important piece of the fête puzzle is left, and this is when I come in. I have crafted this podcast for the explicit purpose of listening to whilst dining, the music was quite literally chosen and prepared as if it were edible. Pop this baby in your tape deck as soon as you sit down for your first course, and by dessert you’ll be full, mellow, and ready to take on the rest of your evening. You can rest assured that your dinner went off without a hitch and your friends will be glad they had one less thing to worry about.

Bon appétit,

Samuel

A Great Day for Music in New York City

August.20.2008 @ 3:47 pm by B-Roc | Posted in Amazing

Music in New York has been going through a dark period the past few years with the Strokes not around and Hot 97 playing Gym Class Heroes. Thankfully there are a few acts downtown who are trying to bring the music back. On Thursday August 21st the downtown music collective known as HeavyRoc Music has brought together four of New Yorks’ finest to perform at Le Royale. The Postelles, Samuel (with his new live band), Charlie Klarsfeld and The Americans, and  Julia. Music will be provided the rest of the night by DJ B-Roc, Matt Creed and the legendary Arthur Baker. Open bar from 9-10.

This is going to be the show of the summer! make sure you don’t miss it.

Recently I have become friends with the one and only Andrew W.K. We hit it off instantly and now are planning some fun things together. We have a mixtape due out September 15th that will feature all original music from Andrew, Myself, his artist Bad Brilliance, The Knocks, Samuel, Julia and The Americans. Look out because it is going to be huge. There will be an equally as huge release party on September 15th at Andrew’s new club Santos Party House. The release party will feature Andrew’s first performance ever at Santos along with performances by Bad Brilliance & SAMUEL!!!!

this is just a sneak peek, more coming soon! For now check out some of these Andrew W.K goodies:

Songs Of Samuel pt. 2 “Songs by The Beach”

August.5.2008 @ 8:24 pm by B-Roc | Posted in Music, Travel

Now that it’s August, the summers end is close at hand, and as a last ditch effort to savor the brilliance that the summer season inspires, most of us will take some vacations. A very large amount of us have been going to the beach since the summers conception (Hamptonites, Fire Islanders, etc.) but for those of you haven’t yet experienced the wonder that is Coney Island or any beach scene for that matter, this podcast is for you. Before September begins to come around, which will preface the ugliness that is winter: go somewhere warm, nice, and comfortable. Once you get there, pop this mixtape into your ears and let it rock out for the entirety, you’re vacation/nap/bbq/beach-side-tanning-session will be forever better.

Enjoy,
Samuel

and make sure you check out the last track! my new version of “I Heart New York” thats only available on the podcast!

Samuel and I are out here for 2 weeks couch surfing, taking meetings, jumping from studio to studio and grinding out but in the meantime we take adventures and no one keeps us fresher than LOLA.

As an ode to our much missed homeland, check out the video of Samuel performing “I Heart New York” at the show we had at Pianos the night before we left.

HELLA love and we’ll see you all when we get back!!

I’m restless, I’m anxious, I’m older than I am
All the lives we think we lead seem so much better than
the truth we’d be left with if we sat at home alone
but we dont want to think about it so let’s drink and get stoned

We’re reaching for something that isn’t there
we’re playing with people who just don’t care
we smile and we laugh and we pour ourselves a drink
so we won’t feel so lonely and force ourselves to think

We’re happy, we think, but still it drives us mad
the money, fame, and love is all i wish i had
the life is beautiful on the outside but take a second look
were going out of our minds

leven rambin in LA, LOLA New York

leven rambin in LA, LOLA New York

Let me introduce myself as Leven, “Levlita”; Actress/LOLA fan. When I met the fantastical Emmett Shine, I was immediately captivated by his creativity, charm, and spirit. I proceeded to lure him into a round-the-clock, mostly drunken, passionate blackberry messenger affair that I have somehow managed to prolong until this day.

.
When I was recently unexpectedly plucked from a visit in Houston to go to LA to film a new television series for the CW, I was excited (natch) but semi-terrified. I have only worked as an actress in New York City, where I find myself to be in the minority (in the “actor” population) as a busty blonde with a dry sense of humor and Converse sneakers. Thankfully, I had Emmett to keep me company via “BBM” and plenty of debauched, eager friends to keep me entertained while not slaving away on set in the middle of nowhere in Hawthorne, California with my mama in a trailer.

.
While staying at the new, offensively hip n’ happening, unfinished hotel, The Thompson” I held many a hotel room party catered by a scant mini-bar and some pharamacy-bought protein bars. All my thanks to: the amazing, cuddly Brent Weber for spooning me whilst watching Katherine Heigl movies, Cade Hudson for being a rampant neanderthal with an unquenchable appetite for vodkaredbulls, Little B. Hilton for being wiley, down for anything, and showing me just how versatile hotel balconies can be.

.
I would also like to thank Constantine Maroulis for keeping me alert and from fading into delirium on-set in the 99 degree heat. Also, Nicholai H., thank you for throwing such an amazing house party and to Jon Alagem for keeping the partygoers in Nicky’s backyard from causing overwhelming noise pollution. Hunter Parrish deserves a warm thank you for unwillingly climbing/posing in a large piece of construction machinery and proceeding to get covered in nearly-unremovable grease. And an enormous thank you to Leah Pepper for hosting my unofficial last-night-in-LA party in her hotel room sponsored by Johnny’s Pizzeria and the troupe of underage partygoers Barron stampeded the room with. Thanks for making my work-oriented trip to LA so counterproductive! I love you all!

Already back in New York… ; )

La, I barely knew thee!!!

xoxo
