Back-
Featuring artists Bob Colacello, Daniel Fuller, Lisa de Kooning, Matisse Patterson, John Ross Rist, and William Wood, the Generations Collide exhibition will traverse the generations through the mediums of painting, sculpture, and photography.
Some of the artists that have the largest impact on me grew up in a time much before my own, while others are artists that have barely reached their twenties. The different waves of creativity fascinate me as I look at how each new technique or series holds its own in an ever-evolving art world. This exhibition examines the parallel existence of a distinct group of artists from different eras and sees how their work varies and how one generation relates to or influences the next.
Generations Collide will open with a reception for the artists on May 20th, 2010, at the Murphy and Dine Gallery, located at 520 West 27th Street, NYC, from 6 pm to 10 pm. Refreshments will be served and all guests are invited to join us for the after party on the 5th floor terrace of the gallery. There will be a guest list, so please be sure to rsvp.
Best regards,Trip

Them Thangs: Back In Action
A few months ago, Emmett posted an article about Them Thangs, and a little while later, after gaining too much attention, the image-heavy inspiration-laden site went down due to hosting issues. However, Them Thangs is back online and better than ever, featuring a new layout with tons of "newer shit" and "older shit". The phoenix has risen. Check it out.

Matchbooks from Seattle
This Fall I went to Seattle with Vanessa. It's a strange place. They had an amazing vintage store the size of a mall. I got a suitcase from the 50s and about a dozen matchbooks. At the airport I had to rip out all the actual matches, but was able to keep the matchbooks. I love the designs and colors. Check them out.

BELIZE II: SAN PEDRO & MAYAN RUINS
Second series of photographs from Belize. These pictures were taken on the northern island of Ambergris Caye, more commonly known by the only town on the island; San Pedro. Madonna famously wrote the song "La Isla Bonita", about the island. The video is pretty amazing. There are also pictures from the riverboat ride to, and at, the 3,000 year old Mayan ruins of Lamanai. The area is deep in Belize and only accessible via boat.

Farewell Meadowlands
Last night was the final game in the history of the Meadowlands, a stadium the New York Jets have called home since 1984.
The weather was unfathomably cold as the NFL decided to move the game from 1 pm to 8 pm, and the stadium was unfathomably dry, as the Jets decided it was not wise to sell alcohol in an environment that could have become chaotic at the drop of a hat. As if there wasn't enough emotions running through all the frozen fans, if the Jets won the game, they are in the playoffs, if they lose, they're out, and have shamed the stadium, like some not to be named team did a week before.

Them Thangs
Designers spend a lot of hours online. In going through images you save files on your desktop. People started sharing images they liked, which led to the rise of sites like FFFFound.com. Next came certain sites like JJJJound, which we wrote about a while back. Them Thangs is similar to JJJJound - money, cash, girls, clothes, and photos, but differentiates itself by leaning more towards sepia-toned, vintage, or rougher, scanned in images. Both sites are incredible to scrollll through, be inspired, or just absorb.

The Towers of Light
Each year on 9/11 two apparent beams of light rise from battery park just south of ground zero in what is known to some as the Tribute in Light. In reality, these Towers of Light, whose some odd several dozen individual beams represent in striking relief the facade of the Twin Towers, are a ghostly effigy and an enduring symbol of hope. Who when up close are changed and reborn by the clouds, condensation, moisture, moths, and birds, at different altitudes and phases, to create one of the greatest standing pieces of art known to man, illustrating his ability to burn the heavens, just as readily as his depth and sorrow at his place on earth.

Fotographien von Berlin
I took these photos while visiting Berlin this summer with Cornelia and Han. With many of the building covered in graffiti, The Cure playing in almost any bar we entered, and a general fashion trend toward acid washed jeans, leather parachute pants and new wave styled hairdos, the city reminded me of New York in the 80s. But amid this quirky time-warp, there is a flourishing art scene and an energetic youthfulness to the city and it's people. The younger generation, too young to feel the restrictions of the wall at the time of it's reign, are growing up with an outlook and freedom that is new and profound. Berlin is a city to watch!

Admission and booze were free and the crowd was treated to an evening to remember (if possible). Not even a scuffle on an empty Peters St or a few local crackheads could dampen the mood for the crowd which dispersed shortly before 3.

Movie Life is the documentation of the making of Evil Weed. It is a behind the scenes look into how an independent movie gets made. The stress, joy, uncertainty, hard-work, fun, and action that goes into a feature-length film getting made with a young cast and a first time director. Last Friday I saw Jay-Z preform at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. I have seen Jay preform numerous times, however, this was one of the most personal and intimate shows I've ever seen by an artist of any genre. I was almost kicked out for videotaping but that was the most illegal thing being done in that arena. Check out the videos!

Steel Harmony plays Joy Division's "Transmission"
My friend and I were having a conversation that begin with, If you're wearing a band's tee shirt, you better be able to name some songs. For me, Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures shirt takes the cake, worn by pseudo hipsters who never heard of the band until the film Control came out and subsequently "Love Will Tear Us Apart" became the anthem for a generation who for the most part doesn't know the first thing from postpunk.

8 Track Back?
I saw on the Colbert Report last night that Cheap Trick was self-releasing its new album, available in limited LP and 8-track editions. This band helped mold a punk template into a pop sound, making it appealing to the masses. Cheap Trick’s The Latest sounds promising so far, but will its potential awesomeness inspire people to scour garage sales for eight-track tape players? And then shell out an additional $30 for the limited-edition version of the album that will be made available in that format? Eight-track tapes–the bricklike music-delivery methods that forced many a windy band to figure out just how to chop their longer songs in two–are still made in limited runs, and given that Cheap Trick’s back catalogue is still out there–if not entirely in demand–in the format, it makes sense.

Tomorrow night Madison Square Garden will host the 2009 NBA Draft. The Bible Illuminated
I became interested in this several weeks ago after I saw an interview with the author on the Colbert Report. Dag Söderberg, a the former CEO of one of the largest advertising firms in Scandinavia, with a passion photography, has produced The Book, in an effort to re-brand the Bible for a consumer audience but remain true to the text. Bible Illuminated:The Book looks like a high-end magazine. It presents the New Testament as it's never been seen before in full-color, glossy format, illustrated throughout with striking, sometimes provocative, contemporary photographs. It is meant to be comfortable and easy to flip through and used as you would use any Bible. There are no verses and the text runs with columns and paragraphs just like in a magazine. Söderberg has produced both Old and New Testament versions of his illuminated bible and both contain a variety of bold imagery. Take a look.

Specifically, the term “Black Monday” has referred to diverse catastrophes – from a 13th Century Gaelic massacre to 21st Century financial collapse. It is on “black” days that terrible things happen without warning – events so unexpectedly bad that we are dumbfounded by their repercussions.Date: May 07, 20090 Responses

Faces. Puerto Rico Photo Project Part III - Conclusion
The third and final installment from the three-part Puerto Rico photo essay, "Faces" is up.
The photographs and writings from "Faces" are based upon our time in Rincon, Puerto Rico and some of the people we saw. Most of the time was spent walking quietly, listenin,g but we did run into some friends from New York and some of my dad's older friends.

Harley and Cassie dot blogspot
This picture of the toast resembling the Virgin Mary was put up on the Harley and Cassie blog, denoting the price it was sold for... $28,000. Apparently people are making trips to go see it in person, excusing it as a spiritual journey.

"Last Week Was Hot": Weekly Mixtape #9
Memories from last week: It was 90 degrees out, I was on Lucas' back porch grilling a burger in flip flops.
Memories from last night: It's 50 degrees out, I'm dressed like its 76 and I'm getting rained on.
Its kind of humid and nasty out now but whatever. This should get you ready for summer, pray for sunshine. Mix has everything from to RAH Band to Cerrone to Dame Grease to Max B to Kevin Little. Tracklist coming soon, for now just listen and enjoy...

Greetings From The Outside by Create Build Destroy
Alex from Create Build Destroy hit me with the lookbook for their newest collection 'Greetings from the Outside'. Check for their Organic cotton v-necks, which is an innovation to their pocket-tee from previous collections. A noteworthy addition to this line is the Catcher in the Rye inspired 'Pency Prep' tee, which is a collaboration with Julian from Wolf & Pack (that's fam since day one, for those who don't know). The lookbook appears to be an extension of the aesthetic of the last collection, shot all in sepia with elegant illustrations and quotes. Good job CBD.
PS big Richie Cox I see you homie.

Eli's New Website .com
I've been working on my website for a few months, going back and forth with a few ideas. Here is the latest version, showcasing some design work I've worked on in the office, some links to a few projects, as well as some works I've done just for fun.

Detention.
Unfortunately sometimes people get caught doing things in school, things they aren't supposed to do. When one gets caught doing said naughty activity, they will almost always get detention. I had to sit around in a classroom today with no one besides the teacher and myself. The teacher was not leaning over me, which was fortunate for me, because I was able to waste time watching amusing videos on you tube. I wanted to share two things with you today; those being one of the many videos I watched, and the other is the orgin of why people get punished. Here is the link to the reason why people get punished. The reason why I wanted to share the orgins of punishment is because I believe there is always a better way of achieving something, and the only issue is figuring out what it is.

Hang Ten
Thomas Campbell's new surf film "The Present" is premiering in New York on Tuesday April 28th at Anthology Film Archives. You can watch the trailer here. Looks pretty sick, right? Also, there will be a pre-screening party at Mollusk Surf Shop tonight in Brooklyn complete with music, projections, and a cookout. Tubular!

Blood Street
Last night I had the honor and the priveledge of playing with Blood Street's guitar demon and lead singer/guitarist Eric Broberg and Mean Eddy at Common ground, along with Cody Dickinson, rocker and rock star royalty hailing from the North Mississippi All Stars, a band who just opened for Widespread Panic, and has opened for such little acts as Black Crows, and Dave Matthews. For those of you who don't know, Blood ST is about to be explode, and heads on tour in the fall with the All Stars.

Weil Studios
Amanda Weil, Harvard Graduate and Whitney Museum Independent Study alum, founded Weil Studio in 1993 as a way to blend her interests in photography and architecture together. Her successful photographic glass art intallation business has done nothing but flourish since. Today Weil Studio, with the help of Gin Lane Media, re-launched their website.
The site features beautiful full-screen photography stretched outwards with case-studies, and information placed over the imagery. There are some fun small aspects to the site as well. Check it out at weilstudio.com

Sophomore Spring 2009
Chrissie Miller and Madeleine Von Froomer (I love the full name!) have released their Spring 2009 collection. It features warmer color tones, great cuts, expanded out womens' line, and the expected great T-shirt designs.
The accompanying lookbook was shot by Cass Bird and features some familiar faces. Check it out at sophomorenyc.com

Circus of the Sun
We went last week to the Circus; Cirque du Soleil on Randal's Island for opening night of their latest show: Kooza. They strictly forbid taking any photographs, I managed sneaking some. The show was incredible and inspiring. Many of the performers are former Olympians who now travel with the circus full-time.

Birthdays Was the Worst Days
Our good friend Owen had a three-day affair over the weekend culminating in a little soiree at Mr. West Monday night. It was a dope group; 30 deep, with Jus Ske (love his website) & Statik Selektah DJing while shouting out Owen and the team. It felt just like old times. I took out the new point and shoot for the first time. I messed up a bunch of fotos, some came out, here they are:

Jacqueline & Kelvin
Jacqueline Perrett and Kelvin Ho have a modern attractive home. I think it's well designed and looks like a dope hang out spot. There's no doubt about it that I wouldn't mind living there. The ceiling shower head is a nice touch, I have the same thing in my house in one of the showers too. I think the trainer (essentially a treadmill for bikes) is sweet and I've always wanted one, definitely a nice touch for a fix gear rider's home. Photos pulled from The Selby.

Team Facelift's new track
I ran into Fonda last night at Above Allen, and after the requisite handjob-shake, we got romantic on the balcony looking down Allen at the bridge lights (until we were so rudely interupted by Young Thin Famous), while he told me about his new track "Shake That Ass": I was thus warned that they were plotting a KTU takeover. Prepare to have your damn face melted.

Let’s Take It Back To The Old School
Remember letterman jackets? Sure you do. It doesn’t matter if you rolled with the skaters or the prepsters, regardless of which hallway of life you raced in high school, there was always that handful of kids who paraded around with team spirit on their sleeves, their backs, and their chests with that proud “Go Team Go” attitude. Although I never rocked the made-for-school/by-school clothing other than my ratty track hoodie, these days I am experiencing a nostalgia for school pride even if it’s a few (several) years too late. And it’s not just me— the varsity jacket has been popping up just about everywhere on cool kids and cliques everywhere other than the school campus.

KRINK
KR is an infamous graffiti artist who never falls short when it comes to innovative ideas. His newest exhibition included my favorite installation he has made: custom fire extinguishers. He has used fire extinguishers filled with paint in a lot of his past work and has now branded one of the tools of his trade.

Clouds Around the Cooper Square Hotel
A Party was held on Friday at the Cooper Square Hotel. I hate the hotel's design and find it's presence garish and out of place. However, being on the top floor with an open bar and a 360 degree view on Manhattan's skyling all around you can make anyone momentarily ease up and enjoy the setting.

Andrew Kuo "I'm Dyin' Over Here" Opening
Andrew Kuo is dope. He is easily my favorite new artist, and I think a lot of people share that sentiment. His opening, "I'm Dyin' Over Here" held at the cool Taxter and Spengemann gallery on 12th street was last last weekend. After the bright lights of the Mary Boone Gallery opening, it was a refreshingly relaxed and approachable opening.

Koons, Kelley, Koh show
Mary Boone, somewhat a matriarch of the art world, had an opening last weekend featuring the work of Jeff Koons, Mike Kelley, and Terrence Koh. Although there was not much work on display (most memorable was Terrence Koh's marble urinal piece), there was a huge turnout which felt like a Hollywood version of a New York art opening in Chelsea. It was a bit over the top, yet was an interesting experience. All the artists are world reknowned and respected; rightfully so, but sometimes the worst way to appreciate the art is at an opening. It also can be the best place to appreciate the art of an art opening.

Nieves Books Retrospective at Printed Matter
Printed Matter in Chelsea is a dope book store and the world's largest non-profit organization for artist publications. Last weekend, they hosted an exhibition of Nieves; the legendary Swiss publisher. On display was a retrospective of zines published over the last five years.
There were over 100 zines spreadout through the book, for sale, and to peruse. Some photocopied, some hardcover, most small, and all interesting. Printed Matter has an eclectic collection of books, prints, and art in the store, many new to me.

Watching the Knicks Get Eliminated from the Playoffs Courtside
Last weekend I went with Vanessa to see the New York Knicks courtside. Unfortunately, we watched them get eliminated from the playoffs...albeit in style. The seats were at the Scorers' table which meant we got all the stats and info printed out immediately following each quarter. Every piece of paper (literally hot from being just printed) said "New York Knickerbockers," which I loved. There were little personal TVs, sprite drinks, and awkwardly heavy seats (to prevent being thrown?).

Cameron Moll Letterpress Poster
As a typography nerd, I was delighted to order this letterpressed poster created by Cameron Moll. Using only characters from the fonts Bickham Script Pro, Engravers MT and Epic, Cameron created an image of the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City Utah. It's fucking incredible. I now have something to hang in my room.

Pink Party
I got dragged last weekend to some party in Chinatown. Everyone wore pink. It was related to refinery29.com
somehow. It was really weird, but I have to admit a party in Chinatown is always better than a party elsewhere. Was fun, and I took some photos as my camera died.Date: Apr 10, 20092 Responses

I'm not entirely sure what he has in store for us, but assuming this sneak preview is any indication, it should be pretty dope. Bonus: There Will Be Bud(weiser). Please come through!

Wolf and Pack -- LOLA in Europe
Tucked neatly into the Pot capital of the world, Amsterdam, there is a small boutique that has been our sister store for many years called Wolf and Pack, which has sold our goods at an alarming rate. This morning I got a report from Julian, the proprietor (who frequently hops the pond to come into our office with blunts the size of my forearm) that LOLA sold 12% of the last order we sent over in a day!
Congrats to Max, Emmett, Sean and James for designing incredible shirts that the high end european fashion and drug communities alike love more than Kush.

A Very Fun Art Event
The entire crew went over to West 27th Street for the art show curated by Tripoli Patterson. The photos, by renowned surfer, Danny Fuller, were thoughtful, and beautiful. The crowd was tremendous. There was an outside section with a tent, and dancefloor. The DJ was great. Everyone burnt up the dance floor. We then went a few blocks down to a great Japanese place on 10th avenue and drank the place dry of Sake.

This weekend I stopped by Partners & Spade on Great Jones Street. It was the coolest store I have been to in recent memory. The majority of the art and products in the space were extremely inspiring, witty, funny and intelligent. I am going to forgo a traditional review and highly recommend if you read this post that you take a nice stroll down there this week. Check out the photos:

SF Fixies
This video is a preview for the Macaframa fixed gear biking movie that came out a ways back. I picked this video because of the filming style and quality of cinematography. The skill level of the riding in the video is also really great. The fixie phenomenon has hit so called 'hipster' scenes all over the place, especially San Francisco and New York City. I myself have plans to get not one, but two fixed gear bikes very soon, one of which I will be building myself, literally from scratch.
