iPhone Paints New Yorker Cover

Posted by Eli Rousso on May 25, 2009 in Art  New York City  Technology

The June 1st issue of The New Yorker features cover work by artist Jorge Colombo. Here's the hitch: He painted it entirely with an iPhone

Colombo used the app "Brushes" ($4.99) to paint a vivid and typical New York hot dog cart scene– in about an hour. Very, very cool. I'd like to see someone with a BlackBerry do that!

Emmett I think it's an interesting nod to the prevalence of mobile culture. The New Yorker covers are predominantly drawn or watercolor-based. To have a digitally created cover, on an iPhone, is a sign of the times. I prefer Blackberries tho
Marty As fun as it would be to fingerpaint on my Blackberry, I'm too busy NOT looking like a four year old to bother with it.

loseegoose i just saw that issue on my kitchen table and felt a weird pull to it. i spent 20 min trying to figure out how he did it, i am kinda amazed. also the colors on the print version are far more vibrant than the one posted here, it has a lot more life to it
